COMPANY OVERVIEW & HISTORY

Levine, Jacobs & Company, LLC is a sixty year old certified public accounting firm that has grown into a premier New Jersey firm. With a storied history, we are proud to offer “Insight Beyond Numbers,” to our clients.

Jack W. Kay was the original founder of the firm that has evolved into Levine, Jacobs & Company, LLC.  In 1952 he began a small accounting practice out of his home in Livingston, NJ.  His clientele included small business owners, doctors, professionals, and friends who became clients.  With the help of his wife, Harriet, Jack’s practice flourished, and, by the mid-1970s, his practice encompassed over a hundred clients.

Steven L. Levine, CPA/PFS/CGMA became Jack’s first partner in 1978, and Kay, Levine & Co. was created.  Four years later the firm continued its growth by adding Richard M. Hoffman, CPA.  When Richard became a partner, the firm moved its offices to Windsor Plaza in Livingston.  Shortly thereafter, the firm completed its first of many mergers with Robert J. Blackwell, CPA/PFS/CGMA.  After enjoying a successful career, Jack W. Kay retired in 1984.

In the fall of 1987, the firm completed its second merger when Michael H. Karu, CPA/CFF/CGMA joined the practice as partner, establishing the partnership of Levine, Hoffman, Blackwell & Karu.  The following year, Timothy J. Shore, CPA joined the firm, and, in 1996 became a partner.

In August 1996, a merger with the accounting firm of Jacobs, Siegel & Company added Morton R. Weinberg, CPA as a partner and doubled the size of the firm.  With the contemporaneous buyout of Allan Jacobs and Harold Siegel, the firm became known as Levine, Jacobs & Company, LLC.  James A. Kruper, CPA, who was a staff accountant at Jacobs, Siegel became a partner in 2004.  Additional mergers with the firm of Soloway & Levine and with sole practitioners David M. Horn, CPA, Arnold Winick, CPA and Mario Galazzo, CPA have contributed to the firm’s growth.  The firm now totals nine partners and a staff of both accountants and administrative assistants numbering twenty-five. 

Today, as it did more than a half a century ago, Levine, Jacobs & Company, LLC receives the majority of its referrals from word of mouth recommendations from satisfied clients.  In addition to having a very high client retention rate, with many staying for over forty years and multi-generational, the firm continues to add new clients. 

Additionally, the company utilizes public and media relations efforts to increase visibility and share expertise as well as assuming active roles in both State and local Chambers of Commerce.  While time has changed the company over the decades, there is one theme that has been constant - Levine, Jacobs & Company, L.L.C. prides itself on its teamwork abilities where “every account receives the talent and expertise of the whole firm.
